Today was an extremely busy day with the temperature climbing ever higher. It started bright and early thanks yet again to the traffic on the street outside. After breakfast it was straight to work, with some going to classroom and others resuming jobs from the day before. With a lot of hard work the painters have completely finished the wall (after only two days!!!).
Those working on the cistern made great headway today breaking down two entire walls and a set of heavy cement stairs. Needless to say none of those that worked on it can raise their arms above their shoulders anymore, we have been dreaming of hot reliable baths and massages to relieve our stressed muscles.
Dr Susan and Ros spent the day doctoring the small children and making sure all was well in the health department. Some people have spent time in classes and the unanimous favourite class is the English class (as few of us can speak any Spanish). I (Taylor) personally went in with Megan to a grade 6 class and we sang Imagine by John Lennon with the kids. Hearing them sing about no need for hunger practically made me cry because I had heard about the conditions that some of these children had lived in before they came to El Hogar. We had another delicious meal before heading here to write (you guessed it, beans) and now it is off to play with the kiddies. I hope all is well with those following the blog and that you are having as much fun reading it as we are writing it.

ReplyDeleteHola! I am so proud of you all and I wish I was with you at El Hogar so badly! Tell Pablo and Maynor that Allie says hi. My thoughts are with you and all of the beautiful smiling faces of El Hogar.
