Day Two

We woke up after a good night´s sleep to a beautiful morning. We were shuttled off to church this morning with about ten girls and boys who got to come with us as a ¨reward¨ for having a good week at school. Although Rick and Ros were the only ones who could understand the service the rest of us could follow along - thank goodness for a traditional Anglican service! The music was lively and uplifting, with a full band playing from the balcony. It was great to see about 50 kids and youth come from the Escuela Dominical (Sunday School) for communion. We were surprised to see Louise and Erika march in with them - they had snuck out and gone to Sunday School to observe.

After church, we went to Pollo Campero (a Central American version of KFC) to treat the children to a meal and a chance to play in the ¨play place¨. Jane and Tom Habig joined the team today after a quick detour on their way down here. They came just in time for lunch. After lunch we all piled into the 15 passenger van that Raul drives us around in. Well, there are 15 seats in the van, but that doesn´t mean it is only for 15 passengers. Last year I think our record was 21 people, but that included some kids sitting on laps. This year there were only a modest 15 people and a few suitcases. We have time to top our record, the week is still young!

We spent the afternoon playing with the children... Skipping, soccer, drawing, bubbles, basketball... There was so much going on.

Rick purchased a pair of brand new rollerblades, and they were an absolute hit. Without help from any of the adults, the kids organized themselves in a line up so they could all have a chance. They got through the line two-by-two, because the kids don´t put on the pair of rollerblades, they only take one each. That way, twice as many people can have fun!

We got a basic run down of the tasks we have to do for the week, so we are all headed off to bed to get rested up for tomorrow morning.

Buenos Noches!
