NOTE: We got some pictures uploaded, however we had to link them from another site, so they look like they are cut off when you are going through the blog. To see the full sized picture, just click on the partial image in the blog and it should take you to another website. Leave a comment if you are having trouble! We are doing the best we can with what we have... including keyboards with spanish characters... It took us forever to figure out how to find the ¨@¨ sign.
We made it! With various international flights and stop overs, all 10 of us from St. Luke´s, Burlington, one from St. Luke´s Jackson, TN and one from Cincinnati, OH (the other two from Cincinnati will join us tomorrow) landed in Tegucigalpa and arrived at El Hogar safely.
Matt and Erika had to overnight in Miami to catch their connecting flight early the next morning. While everyone else was doing last minute packing, they had the unfortunate burden of hanging out in South Beach...
The rest of the Burlington team gathered at the airport early this morning. They flew from Toronto to San Salvador, El Salvador and then hopped on a ¨puddle jumper¨plane for the last leg to Tegucigalpa.
Once they arrived, Raul, our trusty guide (coordinator of all the volunteer teams and husband of El Hogar´s director Claudia) and some locals helped load up the 15 passenger van with all the suitcases.
As the St. Luke´s parishioners in Burlington were just finishing up their spaghetti at the First Annual Spaghetti dinner, we were just sitting down to ours.
After dinner we got in some play time with the boys and girls. There was some skipping, a game of basketball, football (American) and football (the real kind!). All the boys seem to have an innate ability to excel at soccer, so it is pretty intimidating to join into a game, but a few of us felt brave enough to step in - Hilary certainly gave them a run for their money!
For those of us returning, it was nice to see some familiar faces, even if we don´t remember all of the boys´ and girls´ names.
It´s been a long day of travel, but we are all happy to be here. Off to our bunk beds!

Glad to hear you all arrived safely.
ReplyDeleteI will check back this evening with the girls so that they can comment.
Another beautiful morning here in Burlington, sun shining, birds chirping etc.
Please do not get Loraine tired out too much , as there will be lots of house work to do here when she returns here.....
Bury lost again Loraine 5-2 but even worse the Celts did too 2-0 in the semi, so bad day soccer wise.
Back later with the kids.
Look after yourselves, and post photos asap as we are all waiting to see them here in the Murty household.
All our love.
Andy, Emma and Heather, although only Andy and Emma up right now.
Off to Hamilton, bye.
Great to hear everyone got there safely. I hope you have a great and restful sleep tonight to be ready for your work day tomorrow. It was busy in the parish today. We had a packed Church at the 10 A.M. with four baptisms. I had a funeral in the afternoon and then confirmation at the Cathedral with 6 St. Luke's confirmands.
ReplyDeleteHast la proxmia.
con cariño
Stuart.
Hello!!! Emma here :D
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see that you're doing such good things down there. Mum, you look like you're having a lot of fun while you do it too :)
Not much to say about what's going on down here except starting quadratic functions in math...fun.. :(
Dad and I managed to do some grocery shopping (by ourselves :O) and I had to clean out Rosie's litter tray. Let's just say we are now calling her poop machine. G2G to bed now so have fun, stay safe, and keep helping people. We're all really proud of you :D
